Young Adults
Glenn's Young Adult Ministry is open to anyone ages 21-30s, but there's no hard cut off. "Young adult" is a life stage, not an age. We have graduate students, young professionals, single folks, married couples, and more. All are welcome here! The Young Adult Ministry is open-minded, justice-seeking, and LGBTQ+ affirming. Bring your whole self, and come as you are. Read below for details on the Young Adults and College ministries. If you are looking for more information about our college ministry, please view our page for College Students.
Glenn Young Adults meet every Sunday morning at Glenn Memorial UMC for Sunday School at 9:45AM in the Church School Building, room 401 on the top floor. If you're an early riser, meet us after the 8:30 service in Glenn's Little Chapel. If mornings aren't your thing, join us at Sunday School and then head over to the Sanctuary for the 11 o'clock service. No preparation needed, and no prior Sunday School experience required! This is a great, low-barrier entry for studying scripture together. Plus, donuts!
Glenn Young Adults meet on Tuesday nights for Theology Tuesdays at 7PM at various bars and breweries around Decatur. Join for fellowship and casual and engaging theological discussions. To stay informed about our location each week, reach out to Sutton at ssmith@glennumc.org or join the Young Adults GroupMe here. In addition to our weekly gatherings, the Young Adults get together each month for fellowship and service opportunities.
Events
Annual Soup-Off
Tuesday, January 20, 7pm | Address upon RSVP
You're invited to the annual Glenn Young Adults Soup-Off! Everyone is invited to prepare and bring a dish to share, and we'll try them all and vote for our favorite. The winner gets to sign and keep the ~golden spoon~ for 2026. "Soup" can be interpreted broadly—past entries have included curry, chili, and banana pudding. Anything that can fit in a bowl is fair game. Bowls, spoons, bread, and beverages will be provided.
Some important details: RSVP at the form linked here and comment what dish you plan to bring. Please make note of possible allergens in your dish (dairy, nuts, gluten, etc). If your soup is not in a crock pot, bring your own trivet so we don't damage countertops.
Theology Book Club
Tuesday, January 27, 7pm | Address upon RSVP
Young adults theology book club kicks off on Tuesday, January 27 at 7PM at Sutton's apartment. The people have voted, and our first book is Accidental Saints: Finding God in All the Wrong People by Nadia Bolz-Weber. Come on the 29th having read the book, and we'll have a casual discussion about it. All are welcome to participate! For more information and to receive the address, join our Book Club GroupMe.
